Shades is having what he fondly calls a "quarter life crisis".
Now, Shades is one of those people who walks in the light. He has a good job and stable financial income. He is single and looks very much like he's the type who gets the fun out of life. Unfortunately, this also makes Shades the type who would have time to entertain existential questions.
And existential questions are not really the ones you should be asking yourself at his age.
Now, I'm not the best of people. I do have my share of blessings. I have passable ideals, an awesome family and a wonderful boyfriend. I, like most people my age, have conceptions that my future will be bright.
But then there are times when something gets the best out of you and reality sneaks up and pulls the rug you're smugly standing on.
Shades begins to wonder about what will happen next. Shades begins to "realize" things like meaning and meaningful relationships. And Shades begins to look ahead. And he starts to remember.
He remembers the time when he was dreaming of things and not trying to make up excuses as to why they haven't come true. He remembers the time when he was playing with simple things like rocks and marbles and not playing mind games with people he cares about. He remembers the time when he was aiming at a dream and not sadly counting his diminishing options.
I think Shades need an intervention.
